Upcoming Conventions! Baltimore, Austin, NYCC, Vegas, Long Beach, ComicKaze & More!!

Hey Y'all!

The fall convention season is about to kick off and I'm all over the place. Here's your complete guide of where to find me and buy stuff (please buy stuff, I just paid off my college loan in one giant painful fell swoop...)

Here's a look at a couple of the new prints I'll have at all these shows-

--If I don't screw up, I'll have a very special new set of prints just in time for NYCC-- check back here next month for info on that.

If you're interested in pre-ordering commissions for any of these shows, shoot me an email. Pre ordering's a great way to get me to spend a little extra time on a piece because I'm a silly perfectionist and if I've got the time at home, I'll spend it getting your piece right.

Ok, enough of that, here's my con Schedule...

September 8th & 9th, 2012 - Baltimore Comic*con
I'll be out in Baltimore (where I was born, btw) early next month with my buddies Josh Fialkov and Chris Ryder!

Be on the lookout for the Baltimore Comic-Con 2012 Yearbook : Liberty Meadows. A limited edition art book celebrating Baltimore Comic*Con and the 15th anniversary of Frank Cho's Liberty Meadows. Featuring art by Frank Quitely, Brandon Peterson, Gene Ha, David Petersen, Bernard Chang, Steve Conley and many more. Oh and Me. Here's a peek at my piece.

I'll post up the whole thing after the show either here or on twitter or deviantart.

The Baltimore Convention Center One West Pratt Street Baltimore, Maryland 21201 (SHARP STREET ENTRANCE)

September 15th & 16th, 2012 - Stan Lee's ComicKaze Los Angeles
Regina and the good folks at ComicKaze are having us out to the 2nd annual ComicKaze show (Now with 100% more Stan Lee!) Last year's show was awesome and now they're moving on up-- Out of the garage and into the convention center proper. Should be a blast! Come on out and see me and the studio boys (some of them at least, I think...)

Jimmy Jay (of Jay Company, Amazing Arizona Comicon & Image Expo) is putting on a comic show in Las Vegas and I'll be in attendance along with my boys Josh Fialkov, Mike Costa, Kyle Higgins and a bunch of others! This is the same Weekend as Morrison Con so I imagine Vegas'll be at maximum nerd levels. Jimmy always puts on an awesome show. I'm excited.

First time I've set up by myself at NYCC. I'll be in Artist Alley (which, I guess is in a different room than the rest of the show-- so make sure you come find me.) I haven't been to New York in a few years. This time I'll be sure and remember that the weather in NY in October is different than it is in Los Angeles. So sadly, shorts are out of the question.

The Internet Attacks!!

Hey Y'all!

I'm not sure why, but suddenly the internet is all up in my google alerts with little (and not-so little) spotlights on some of my illustrations. Thanks to anyone who's spreading the good word. Glad you like my stuff.

In the interest of keeping track of all these (and in the interest of my gigantic, out of control ego) here's a bunch of links where they say nice things about me.

Crazy, right?

New Prints!

Hey Y'all,

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. It's been the busiest few months of my whole career. Lots of work going on. Exciting stuff is happening.

If you've seen me at a convention in the past couple of years, you've seen my pulp novel cover prints (If you haven't seen me at a show-- here's deviantart.) I try to do a couple of these before every major show I do so I've always got something new to sell while I'm working away on my long, long Oni book.

Anyway, here's 2 new ones that're on their way to the printers tonight.

You can get either or both of these (as well as all my other prints and books and original art, commissions, etc.) at any of these awesome upcoming shows.

The World of Jeff Steinberg

Hey y'all,

I'm working full time right now on me and Josh Fialkov's upcoming Oni Press book. We haven't shown any finished pages yet but I figured I'd give a look at some of the backgrounds.

On most pages I draw the background right in the panel but from time to time there are establishing shots that will get repeated a few times in the book and used as backgrounds here and there. So here's a look at a few of those.

Thanks for stopping in! Next time we'll show some pages.

Desk Shot:: Sneak Peeks

Hey Y'all!

Sorry for the long-time-no-post. Not a lot of time for anything major but here's a first look at some stuff you'll see from me this year. Here's stuff from the Fialkov/Fleecs Oni Press book and also from the written by me, drawn by Tone Rodriguez book-- 2011 looks like it's gonna be a big one if you like comics by me.

Tony Fleecs vs. The Internet!

Hey Y'all!

I know I just updated yesterday but all the sudden I have a couple more things to show. I'm all over the internet today, surprisingly. Here's what's happening.

My Hero Initiative Archie cover is up for auction on ebay today.
Archie Comics graciously created blank-covered editions of the landmark Archie #600 and gave them to The Hero Initiative to have stellar artists do ORIGINAL drawings on the cover. Each of these covers is an original, one-of-a-kind piece! Hero will be auctioning these off at the rate of 5-10 per week ’til we get thru all 57 covers available!

You are bidding on the original and AMAZING wraparound piece featuring the whole Riverdale gang from artist Tony Fleecs! This cover is drawn in pencil, ink,and marker and ya know what? It will also be the cover of the collected Archie book coming from Hero Initiative in January, 2011!
Go throw a bid on that if you've got some extra cash lying around.

This guy's just a fan of my sketchcard work and he has some incredibly nice things to say about me on his sketch card blog.
Tony Fleecs is a Phenomenon. His work is the equivalent of a theater-quality sound system blaring candy corn punk rock battery acid directly into your eyes.
I am actually blushing. Thanks, Rian!

And here's an interview I did a couple weeks back about the sketch cards.
What is your favorite character to draw?
I guess probably Spider-Man. He’s one of my favorites, and he’s fun. Also: Batman and Deadpool. A lot of times on the Marvel sets, I’ll tend to go obscure or draw characters’ old costumes a lot of the time just because I have weird favorite issues or characters. I love guys like Mojo and Puck from Alpha Flight. If I’m reading Runaways, I’ll draw all the Runaways. With so many cards to do, it’s nice to change things up after drawing, like, a hundred Wolverines or Caps.
Thanks for that, NonSportTrading.com!

Ok, I think that's it for now. I'll be back as soon as I have more to talk about. Thanks for stopping in. Have a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

December Update. Comic Sale, Hero-Archie, 1 a day #250!

Hey y'all!

Sorry for the long time between updates. Got a bunch of stuff to talk about so we'll get right to it.

Item! Terminal Press' Tony Fleecs Stocking Stuffer Sale!

For a limited time you can pick up both of my Terminal Press books for zero dollars off each. That's a savings of $0!! If you haven't bought In My Lifetime or Tell Them Johnny Wadd is Here yet, now's the perfect time.

Here's what people who are famous in nerd circles are saying about these books:

“Brave, brilliantly observed comedy, and the first autobio comic in years that hasn’t made me want to punch the author in the stomach.”
--Warren Ellis,
creator of PLANETARY, TRANSMETROPOLITAN & THE AUTHORITY

"Stop it! Stop complaining that comics aren't good enough. Stop moaning that all you can find is derivative genre garbage. Stop whining about the glut of moronic super-hero books and impenetrable shoe-gazer lit-comix . You're holding in your hands the tonic to all those ills. Tell Them Johnny Wadd Is Here is the cure you didn't even know you needed. This book makes clear once and for all that not only is Fleecs one of the most exciting young artists on the comic scene, but also one of its best new writers."
--Phil Hester,
Writer of the Coffin, The Darkness, The Atheist and FireBreather. Artist of Swamp Thing, Green Arrow, Ant Man, Marvel Teamup and Clerks amongst many others.

Item! 1 a day, Day 250!

For those of you who haven't been following the 1 a day blog (where I try to work my way through a gigantic list of commissions that I foolishly solicited last year for $3 a piece) I'm up to day 250 today and there's a bunch of extra cards with today's post. Check in at 1 a day today and every day!

Item! Hero Initiative's Archie: 50 Times an American Icon in stores soon.

The hero initiative's Archie Sketch covers book (featuring a cover drawn by me, the least famous artist in the book) will be in stores on January 26th, 2011. Here's a look at the cover. Make sure you pre-order a copy (NOV10 0953.) Support the hero initiative.

Also, new Hero Initiative Archie sketch covers are going up on ebay every week. Keep an eye on those too.

And furthermore, I did one for the New Avengers 100 book- here's a look at that one.

Ok. That's all for now. Hope everyone has a great holiday season. If you want to keep up with me, check out http://twitter.com/TonyFleecs and http://tonyfleecs1aday.blogspot.com/

Marvel Artist Proof Cards!

Hey Y'all!

Here's the first batch of those artist proof cards from the Marvel 70th set. For those not in the loop, here's what an Artist Proof card is: So, 1 out of every 10 packs of these trading cards has an original piece of art in it. These cards are officially called SketchaFEX cards but most folks just call them Sketch Cards. There are about a hundred artists who do the sketch cards, the (very) rough math is- you've got about a 1 in 10,ooo shot at buying a pack. getting one of my original sketch cards. I posted up a bunch of my cards when the set came out earlier this year you can see them right here.

So those are the regular sketch cards. The Artist Proof cards are a little different. For however many sketches an artist does, as part of the deal with the people who put out the cards, we get back a certain number of blank Artist proof cards back that we can sell or draw on and keep or do whatever we want with... On the Marvel 70th set, I did 150 sketch cards and I got sent back 6 artist proof cards. So again with the math, Regular card= 1 in 10,000... Artist proof (and I'm not great at math) I believe 1 in 17 billion. ;)

Anyway, the main difference with the AP cards is that instead of luck of the draw, it's basically a commission. You can get whoever doing whatever you want on the card (as long as it's decent, all the AP cards still have to be approved by the card guys and Marvel.)

Out of the 6 cards I had for the marvel 70th set, 4 have been sold, 2 are left.

The 2nd to last card is on ebay right now,(click here!)

And the last one will go up after that. You can always find my AP cards on ebay by just searching "Fleecs" or click here and I'll search "Fleecs" for you.

Anyway, these first 4 all got approved today so here's what they look like--

And if you want an AP card and you miss out on these two, not to worry. I've got AP cards coming soon from the next Marvel set, Marvel Heroes and Villains. And some from an upcoming Bettie Page set. And some that I can't talk about yet.

Also, I still write and draw comics. Mostly. All day long. Keep an ear out for news about that shit. Probably right here.

Podcast Interview: Horseshoes & Hand Grenades

Just a quick update today. I did a short interview with Steven and Ashley at the Horseshoes and Hand Grenades podcast. We talked briefly about my comics stuff but mostly we just talked about the boobs of Dragon*Con.

So if you're into hearing me talk about boobs for 20 minutes-- this one's for you!

Also while you're there, check out this video interview they did with my man Chris Moreno from inside the mouth of the Dragon*Con madness.

I'll be back with new art soon. In the meantime if you want to see me draw some stuff- make sure and check in at the 1 a day blog where I draw y'know, 1... every day.

Dragon*Con, Wadd at Comic Book Script Archive and More!

Hey Everybody!

Back in the studio today after a long weekend at the Dragon*Con artist's alley in Atlanta. It was my first time at the show and I had a great time with my Garage Art Studios cohorts. I made 2 new prints for the show, here's a look at them--

And here's a look at a few of the commissions I drew up while we were out there--

Like I said, I had a great time-- Excited to hopefully hit it up again next year. Before that though, be on the lookout for Garage Art Studios a little closer to home at the 2nd Annual Long Beach Comic-Con where I'm planning on rolling out even more new 11x17 prints.

On a completely different note- you can now check out my script and pitch for the Tell Them Johnny Wadd is Here comic book at Tim Simmons' invaluable Comic Book Script Archive. If you have any interest in writing comics, the CBSA should definitely be in your bookmarks folder. Over there you can find scripts from Warren Ellis, Brian Bendis, Matt Fraction, Neil Gaiman and also... me. One of these things is not like the other. In any case, here's some of what they had to say over there:
...I had talked to Tony about getting the Wadd script, and I was stoked that he actually sent over his original pitch for the comic as well– The Pitch is REALLY worth checking out– Our previous examples (Costa’s Hawksmoor and Warren Ellis’ Planetary) don’t fit the typical mold of what you should be writing in a pitch doc– Tony’s Wadd pitch is much closer to what you should be aiming for.

Additionally, since Tony has done it all (Art, Lettering, Coloring, etc,) his script is well worth checking out– Because he’s worked in various positions on other writers scripts, he knows how to call attention to certain details that might be overlooked. In particular, I really dig how he highlights notices for the colorist.
There you go. Again, you can check those out over at the Comic Book Script Archive.

And Finally, If you've been keeping up with me on Twitter, you may have noticed I've been selling some Marvel Artist Proof Card commissions from the Marvel 70th card set on ebay lately. I'll be selling more in the next few days so if you're a sketch card collector, keep an eye out for those.

Speaking of sketch cards, I'm contributing sketches to the Marvel Heroes and Villains set (which comes out in a couple months) and also the Bettie Page Private Collection set (which'll be out next summer.) So if you're into the original card art, check me out on both of those.

Ok, that's all for now- I'll be back with new art soon!

August Art Drop!

Hey y'all,

I'm back from comic-con. Back to work (I'm hustling on the latest Marvel cards right now... Got 2oo color sketch cards to finish up by the 10th..ish). But I wanted to pop in here and drop some of the newer art on y'all.

Here's some of what I've been up to lately...

I'll be back soon-- next post, I think I should be able to show you some of the new Marvel cards. That or I'll have some Oni book pages for you to check out.

Until then--

San Diego Comic-Con 2010!

Hey Guys!

Couple of weeks now until the biggest, nerdiest, walkingest week of the year. I'll be down there- not setting up but there are a couple of places you'll be able to find me (or at the very least, my stuff).

Terminal Press! Booth 1221

Brian, Jess and Narek from TP will be back in SD this year. In My Lifetime: Encore Edition (by me) and Tell Them Johnny Wadd is Here (Tony Fleecs variant cover) by me and EISNER NOMINEE Dave Wachter will both be available.

Hard Bullied Comics!
Small Press table P-09

Steve Earnhardt's Scifi-Pulp fiction series finishes out its 2nd (but totally self contained) arc in TPB form with a brand new panorama wraparound cover by me. It's called Hard Bullied Comics Volume 2: Dead Zep and it's the first scifi-pulp-fiction-detective-vs-anamorphic tiger graphic novel to ever come with its own original full-length rock-n-roll soundtrack CD!

I'll be popping by both of these places to sign shit all through the weekend. Catch me and say hi. Other places you can probably find me: Dos Santos' table, Moreno's Artist's alley table, Oni Press, Out front smoking, Hyatt bar, Star bar and open bars.

Hope to see you there!
