Dragon*Con, Wadd at Comic Book Script Archive and More!

Hey Everybody!

Back in the studio today after a long weekend at the Dragon*Con artist's alley in Atlanta. It was my first time at the show and I had a great time with my Garage Art Studios cohorts. I made 2 new prints for the show, here's a look at them--

And here's a look at a few of the commissions I drew up while we were out there--

Like I said, I had a great time-- Excited to hopefully hit it up again next year. Before that though, be on the lookout for Garage Art Studios a little closer to home at the 2nd Annual Long Beach Comic-Con where I'm planning on rolling out even more new 11x17 prints.

On a completely different note- you can now check out my script and pitch for the Tell Them Johnny Wadd is Here comic book at Tim Simmons' invaluable Comic Book Script Archive. If you have any interest in writing comics, the CBSA should definitely be in your bookmarks folder. Over there you can find scripts from Warren Ellis, Brian Bendis, Matt Fraction, Neil Gaiman and also... me. One of these things is not like the other. In any case, here's some of what they had to say over there:

...I had talked to Tony about getting the Wadd script, and I was stoked that he actually sent over his original pitch for the comic as well– The Pitch is REALLY worth checking out– Our previous examples (Costa’s Hawksmoor and Warren Ellis’ Planetary) don’t fit the typical mold of what you should be writing in a pitch doc– Tony’s Wadd pitch is much closer to what you should be aiming for.

Additionally, since Tony has done it all (Art, Lettering, Coloring, etc,) his script is well worth checking out– Because he’s worked in various positions on other writers scripts, he knows how to call attention to certain details that might be overlooked. In particular, I really dig how he highlights notices for the colorist.

And Finally, If you've been keeping up with me on Twitter, you may have noticed I've been selling some Marvel Artist Proof Card commissions from the Marvel 70th card set on ebay lately. I'll be selling more in the next few days so if you're a sketch card collector, keep an eye out for those.

Speaking of sketch cards, I'm contributing sketches to the Marvel Heroes and Villains set (which comes out in a couple months) and also the Bettie Page Private Collection set (which'll be out next summer.) So if you're into the original card art, check me out on both of those.

August Art Drop!

I'm back from comic-con. Back to work (I'm hustling on the latest Marvel cards right now... Got 2oo color sketch cards to finish up by the 10th..ish). But I wanted to pop in here and drop some of the newer art on y'all.

Steve Earnhardt's Scifi-Pulp fiction series finishes out its 2nd (but totally self contained) arc in TPB form with a brand new panorama wraparound cover by me. It's called Hard Bullied Comics Volume 2: Dead Zep and it's the first scifi-pulp-fiction-detective-vs-anamorphic tiger graphic novel to ever come with its own original full-length rock-n-roll soundtrack CD!

Rock'n Comic Con Wrapup

What's up world?

I had a good time out at the Pasadena show this weekend with my friends Josh Fialkov (the whole time), Tone Rodriguez (2 days) and Lauren Perry (1 day).

I kept real busy with sketches-- Here's a look at some of them.









IMPORTANT- If you're the couple who paid for the Aquaman sketch and didn't pick it up, shoot me an email. I've got it at the studio with me now. We'll figure out how to get it to you. If you're not the couple who bought the Aquaman sketch-- don't worry about it.

Pasadena Rock'n Comic Con this weekend!

Hey folks!

Just a quick note to invite you all out this weekend to Pasadena for the first ever ROCK'N COMIC CON. In attendance will be me (Tony Fleecs, author of In My Lifetime, Johnny Wadd and whatnot,) my good buddy Josh Fialkov (with copies of his and Noel Tuazon's Tumor, hot off the press!) Tone Rodriguez (most recently of ShadowHawk Resurrection fame) and Lauren Perry with her delightful Blank-ees (which are not blankets.)

Also at the show, and much more accomplished and talented than me- Jim Steranko, Stan Lee, J. Scott Campbell, Bill Sienkiewicz, Mike Grell, Scott Shaw, Batton Lash, Bob Layton, Joe Rubinstein and Bernie Wrightson amongst others. Oh and Flock of Seagulls will be there.

Marvel 70th Anniversary trading cards!

Hey Folks!

Just got through with a busy few weeks. Kansas City Planet Comicon and Wondercon. Plus all kinds of work- Lots of storyboards, some commissions, a trade paperback cover and a bunch of writing work on me and Josh Fialkov's Oni book. Hopefully you guys have been keeping up with my 1 a day sketch blog, I've got a new commission up there every day (unless I'm in Kansas at a show for a week.)

Also on the drawing board right now are a bunch of sketch cards for Rittenhouse Archives/Marvel's next set. I did a bunch of sketch cards for their latest set, the Marvel 70th Anniversary trading card set which are available in stores today! We just got word that it's ok to post them- so here's a few of those.





If you want to try and find my cards on your own you can buy them online from anywhere and cross your fingers. There's one sketch card in every 24 packs and there are 99 sketch card artists so if my math is correct, I think there's a 1 in 240,0000 chance that you'll pull a Tony Fleecs original. Good Luck everybody!

Hey Everybody!

Sorry for the long absence, I've been busy drawing my little fingers off. Since we last spoke I worked (tangentially) with Stan Lee, worked on sketch Cards for Marvel, on about a billion storyboards featuring tacos for Taco Johns and I mailed out contracts for my first full length ogrignal graphic novel with my buddy Josh Fialkov and Oni Press (watch this space for details.)

In the midst of all this madness, you're probably asking yourself, "How was he ever able to keep up with his enormous pile of cheap sketch requests?" And the answer, you'll probably not be surprised to hear is: I totally dropped the ball. That's right, I'm way more behind now than I was the last time I posted months ago. But I have a plan. If you're waiting for a $3 or $6 sketch (or if you just like to watch a fat guy sweat) please direct your attention to this new blog.

I'll be drawing and posting at least one commission a day and trying to get these suckers mailed out to my ridiculously patient and understanding patrons. It's not as fast as I was going at the beginning but it's something. And I think I can make progress this way while still keeping up with my actual gigs. (Also- in case you were wondering, of course I'm not taking any new $3/6 sketch requests at this time.)

Next Item: KC PLANET COMICON March 27th and 28th in Kansas City, KS. I'm headed back to the midwest for a special 2 day engagement. And I'm bringing along my superstar studiomate Tone Rodriguez. Other guests of note- Phil Hester! Michael Golden! Jason Aaron! Jane Wiedlin! Sean McKeever! Jeremy Haun! Chris Sprouse! and THAT GUY WHO WAS THE VOICE OF GENERAL GREVIOUS IN STARWARS!! I'm really excited to be at this show-- I haven't been to a non-California show in a few years so-- Expect the unexpected... Or don't.

First Annual Long Beach Comic Con This Weekend!

I'm back with a look at the prints from LBCC this weekend. I'll be in Artist Alley at table #38 (or close to there). Me and Tone, Chris Moreno and Mark Dos Santos have a studio sketchbook for sale as well as a studio Team-up print.

The other new prints -- My solo Gas Station Girl studio print and Ghost Rider v. Mephisto (which might be the first in a series).

Here's another shot of some of the cheap sketches-- These are actually all for one dude... and I'm not even sure he had the biggest order. I'm tearing through these as fast as I can-- Trying to get a giant stack penciled and inked so I can just paint them all up in one night and mail them out.

Also, me and the studio boys will have a sketchbook for sale (cover pictured right over there) which serves as an appetizer for the big color book we're putting together for the cons next year. If you're in the area (or can afford the flight), I hope to see you out there.

Finally, here's a new page I threw together for a secret pitch. It's in my completely opposite more realistic style-- I think it came out kind of cool.

Hey Folks!

Sorry it's been so long since I last checked in. I've been working like a nut since comic-con, trying to keep my ridiculous rent paid. Anyone waiting for commissions, sorry it's taking so long. I'm trying to find time to do them while keeping up with the finding and doing of my regular freelance work. Every body's getting their sketches, don't worry. It's just a matter of finding time to get them all done. Up above you'll see a bunch of the ones I'm working on right now. AND to the right, you'll see another awesome framed set.
