Hey y'all,

I'm working full time right now on me and Josh Fialkov's upcoming Oni Press book. We haven't shown any finished pages yet but I figured I'd give a look at some of the backgrounds.

On most pages I draw the background right in the panel but from time to time there are establishing shots that will get repeated a few times in the book and used as backgrounds here and there. So here's a look at a few of those.

Hey Y'all!

I know I just updated yesterday but all the sudden I have a couple more things to show. I'm all over the internet today, surprisingly. Here's what's happening.

My Hero Initiative Archie cover is up for auction on ebay today.

Archie Comics graciously created blank-covered editions of the landmark Archie #600 and gave them to The Hero Initiative to have stellar artists do ORIGINAL drawings on the cover. Each of these covers is an original, one-of-a-kind piece! Hero will be auctioning these off at the rate of 5-10 per week ’til we get thru all 57 covers available!

You are bidding on the original and AMAZING wraparound piece featuring the whole Riverdale gang from artist Tony Fleecs! This cover is drawn in pencil, ink,and marker and ya know what? It will also be the cover of the collected Archie book coming from Hero Initiative in January, 2011!

Go throw a bid on that if you've got some extra cash lying around.

This guy's just a fan of my sketchcard work and he has some incredibly nice things to say about me on his sketch card blog.

Tony Fleecs is a Phenomenon. His work is the equivalent of a theater-quality sound system blaring candy corn punk rock battery acid directly into your eyes.

What is your favorite character to draw?
I guess probably Spider-Man. He’s one of my favorites, and he’s fun. Also: Batman and Deadpool. A lot of times on the Marvel sets, I’ll tend to go obscure or draw characters’ old costumes a lot of the time just because I have weird favorite issues or characters. I love guys like Mojo and Puck from Alpha Flight. If I’m reading Runaways, I’ll draw all the Runaways. With so many cards to do, it’s nice to change things up after drawing, like, a hundred Wolverines or Caps.

The hero initiative's Archie Sketch covers book (featuring a cover drawn by me, the least famous artist in the book) will be in stores on January 26th, 2011. Here's a look at the cover. Make sure you pre-order a copy (NOV10 0953.) Support the hero initiative.

Also, new Hero Initiative Archie sketch covers are going up on ebay every week. Keep an eye on those too.

Marvel Artist Proof Cards!

Hey Y'all!

Here's the first batch of those artist proof cards from the Marvel 70th set. For those not in the loop, here's what an Artist Proof card is: So, 1 out of every 10 packs of these trading cards has an original piece of art in it. These cards are officially called SketchaFEX cards but most folks just call them Sketch Cards. There are about a hundred artists who do the sketch cards, the (very) rough math is- you've got about a 1 in 10,ooo shot at buying a pack. getting one of my original sketch cards. I posted up a bunch of my cards when the set came out earlier this year you can see them right here.

So those are the regular sketch cards. The Artist Proof cards are a little different. For however many sketches an artist does, as part of the deal with the people who put out the cards, we get back a certain number of blank Artist proof cards back that we can sell or draw on and keep or do whatever we want with... On the Marvel 70th set, I did 150 sketch cards and I got sent back 6 artist proof cards. So again with the math, Regular card= 1 in 10,000... Artist proof (and I'm not great at math) I believe 1 in 17 billion. ;)

Anyway, the main difference with the AP cards is that instead of luck of the draw, it's basically a commission. You can get whoever doing whatever you want on the card (as long as it's decent, all the AP cards still have to be approved by the card guys and Marvel.)

Out of the 6 cards I had for the marvel 70th set, 4 have been sold, 2 are left.

The 2nd to last card is on ebay right now,(click here!)

And the last one will go up after that. You can always find my AP cards on ebay by just searching "Fleecs" or click here and I'll search "Fleecs" for you.

Anyway, these first 4 all got approved today so here's what they look like--

And if you want an AP card and you miss out on these two, not to worry. I've got AP cards coming soon from the next Marvel set, Marvel Heroes and Villains. And some from an upcoming Bettie Page set. And some that I can't talk about yet.

Also, I still write and draw comics. Mostly. All day long. Keep an ear out for news about that shit. Probably right here.

Podcast Interview: Horseshoes & Hand Grenades

Just a quick update today. I did a short interview with Steven and Ashley at the Horseshoes and Hand Grenades podcast. We talked briefly about my comics stuff but mostly we just talked about the boobs of Dragon*Con.

Dragon*Con, Wadd at Comic Book Script Archive and More!

Hey Everybody!

Back in the studio today after a long weekend at the Dragon*Con artist's alley in Atlanta. It was my first time at the show and I had a great time with my Garage Art Studios cohorts. I made 2 new prints for the show, here's a look at them--

Like I said, I had a great time-- Excited to hopefully hit it up again next year. Before that though, be on the lookout for Garage Art Studios a little closer to home at the 2nd Annual Long Beach Comic-Con where I'm planning on rolling out even more new 11x17 prints.

On a completely different note- you can now check out my script and pitch for the Tell Them Johnny Wadd is Here comic book at Tim Simmons' invaluable Comic Book Script Archive. If you have any interest in writing comics, the CBSA should definitely be in your bookmarks folder. Over there you can find scripts from Warren Ellis, Brian Bendis, Matt Fraction, Neil Gaiman and also... me. One of these things is not like the other. In any case, here's some of what they had to say over there:

...I had talked to Tony about getting the Wadd script, and I was stoked that he actually sent over his original pitch for the comic as well– The Pitch is REALLY worth checking out– Our previous examples (Costa’s Hawksmoor and Warren Ellis’ Planetary) don’t fit the typical mold of what you should be writing in a pitch doc– Tony’s Wadd pitch is much closer to what you should be aiming for.

Additionally, since Tony has done it all (Art, Lettering, Coloring, etc,) his script is well worth checking out– Because he’s worked in various positions on other writers scripts, he knows how to call attention to certain details that might be overlooked. In particular, I really dig how he highlights notices for the colorist.

And Finally, If you've been keeping up with me on Twitter, you may have noticed I've been selling some Marvel Artist Proof Card commissions from the Marvel 70th card set on ebay lately. I'll be selling more in the next few days so if you're a sketch card collector, keep an eye out for those.

Speaking of sketch cards, I'm contributing sketches to the Marvel Heroes and Villains set (which comes out in a couple months) and also the Bettie Page Private Collection set (which'll be out next summer.) So if you're into the original card art, check me out on both of those.

Steve Earnhardt's Scifi-Pulp fiction series finishes out its 2nd (but totally self contained) arc in TPB form with a brand new panorama wraparound cover by me. It's called Hard Bullied Comics Volume 2: Dead Zep and it's the first scifi-pulp-fiction-detective-vs-anamorphic tiger graphic novel to ever come with its own original full-length rock-n-roll soundtrack CD!

I had a good time out at the Pasadena show this weekend with my friends Josh Fialkov (the whole time), Tone Rodriguez (2 days) and Lauren Perry (1 day).

I kept real busy with sketches-- Here's a look at some of them.

Pasadena Rock'n Comic Con this weekend!

Hey folks!

Just a quick note to invite you all out this weekend to Pasadena for the first ever ROCK'N COMIC CON. In attendance will be me (Tony Fleecs, author of In My Lifetime, Johnny Wadd and whatnot,) my good buddy Josh Fialkov (with copies of his and Noel Tuazon's Tumor, hot off the press!) Tone Rodriguez (most recently of ShadowHawk Resurrection fame) and Lauren Perry with her delightful Blank-ees (which are not blankets.)

Marvel 70th Anniversary trading cards!

Hey Folks!

Just got through with a busy few weeks. Kansas City Planet Comicon and Wondercon. Plus all kinds of work- Lots of storyboards, some commissions, a trade paperback cover and a bunch of writing work on me and Josh Fialkov's Oni book. Hopefully you guys have been keeping up with my 1 a day sketch blog, I've got a new commission up there every day (unless I'm in Kansas at a show for a week.)

Also on the drawing board right now are a bunch of sketch cards for Rittenhouse Archives/Marvel's next set. I did a bunch of sketch cards for their latest set, the Marvel 70th Anniversary trading card set which are available in stores today! We just got word that it's ok to post them- so here's a few of those.

If you want to try and find my cards on your own you can buy them online from anywhere and cross your fingers. There's one sketch card in every 24 packs and there are 99 sketch card artists so if my math is correct, I think there's a 1 in 240,0000 chance that you'll pull a Tony Fleecs original. Good Luck everybody!

Hey Everybody!

Sorry for the long absence, I've been busy drawing my little fingers off. Since we last spoke I worked (tangentially) with Stan Lee, worked on sketch Cards for Marvel, on about a billion storyboards featuring tacos for Taco Johns and I mailed out contracts for my first full length ogrignal graphic novel with my buddy Josh Fialkov and Oni Press (watch this space for details.)

In the midst of all this madness, you're probably asking yourself, "How was he ever able to keep up with his enormous pile of cheap sketch requests?" And the answer, you'll probably not be surprised to hear is: I totally dropped the ball. That's right, I'm way more behind now than I was the last time I posted months ago. But I have a plan. If you're waiting for a $3 or $6 sketch (or if you just like to watch a fat guy sweat) please direct your attention to this new blog.

I'll be drawing and posting at least one commission a day and trying to get these suckers mailed out to my ridiculously patient and understanding patrons. It's not as fast as I was going at the beginning but it's something. And I think I can make progress this way while still keeping up with my actual gigs. (Also- in case you were wondering, of course I'm not taking any new $3/6 sketch requests at this time.)

Next Item: KC PLANET COMICON March 27th and 28th in Kansas City, KS. I'm headed back to the midwest for a special 2 day engagement. And I'm bringing along my superstar studiomate Tone Rodriguez. Other guests of note- Phil Hester! Michael Golden! Jason Aaron! Jane Wiedlin! Sean McKeever! Jeremy Haun! Chris Sprouse! and THAT GUY WHO WAS THE VOICE OF GENERAL GREVIOUS IN STARWARS!! I'm really excited to be at this show-- I haven't been to a non-California show in a few years so-- Expect the unexpected... Or don't.

I'm back with a look at the prints from LBCC this weekend. I'll be in Artist Alley at table #38 (or close to there). Me and Tone, Chris Moreno and Mark Dos Santos have a studio sketchbook for sale as well as a studio Team-up print.

The other new prints -- My solo Gas Station Girl studio print and Ghost Rider v. Mephisto (which might be the first in a series).

Sorry it's been so long since I last checked in. I've been working like a nut since comic-con, trying to keep my ridiculous rent paid. Anyone waiting for commissions, sorry it's taking so long. My buddy Mark Dos Santos snapped this photo of a movie poster I did last month hanging up at the historic Laemmle's Playhouse 7 in Passadena. Movies are almost like relegion to me so this is about as close as I'll get to a Sistine Chapel gig. Pretty cool. The poster's for a short called BURDEN that'll be showing there as part of the ACTION ON FILM IFF on July 25th (the day after my birthday). You can check out the trailer for Burden right here.

Hey everybody!

Just a quick update to show you some of the stuff I've been working on lately. First up, here's a pinup I did for my buddy Tone Rodriguez. It should show up in the second issue of his book TYRESE GIBSON'S MAYHEM! from Image Comics.

If you're unaware of MAYHEM!, all you have to do is turn on the internet and you'll hear somebody talking about it. I've read the first issue and it's really fun. Tone's art is outstanding- It's gonna be a big deal. You can pre-order the first and second issues now at your local comic shop OR you can get the book at buymayhem.com. Also, if you're going to SDCC you can get the SDCC Exclusive 1st issue with a throwback cover, Pencils by Tone, cover inks colors and design by me.

Next up here's a couple pieces I did for my boys at House of Secrets (the awesome comic shop in Burbank, not the vertigo book). The first piece is from a short story-- Not sure yet where it'll show up in print but as soon as I know-- you'll know.

The second piece is for something else, too early to say anything else, really...

Finally, I got a shoutout at PRETTY CHICKY of all places. They ran a piece on a wedding invitation comic that I drew last year for my best pals Chris & Heidi Ryder (who celebrated their first anniversary last week).

Here's a little bit of what PRETTY CHICKY had to say:

Heidi’s husband, Chris, is a self-proclaimed comic book nerd. The couple wanted to be sure that every aspect of their wedding was a reflection of who they were. Heidi & Chris enlisted the help of Chris’ friend, Tony Fleecs, a comic book artist, to create these custom, personalized invitations. I’m a sucker for bright colors, and creativity anyways, but the artistry of these take them to a whole other level!

As I mentioned earlier this morning (or last night, if you have a retarded sleep schedule like me), I'm on the GEEK BOMBAST podcast this week. I sat in for the whole show which is half news and reviews and half interview with me. I just listened to it and can vouch for it's charm.

Hey Folks!

Lots of sketches going in the mail today. Here's a look at a bunch of them. The big news though, is that sadly, I have to raise the price on these from here on out. The response to the $3 sketches has been so overwhelmingly awesome that it's actually a full time job right now. It's gotten so big, in fact that it's the only thing I'm able to work on. So I figure, if I bump up the price a little bit the the sketch orders will either a.) slow down some or b.) pay me just enough that I don't have to worry about finding time to find & do other freelance.

So here's the new deal. Sketches of whoever or whatever you want, 1 figure - $6 + 44¢ shipping and handling. I'm changing the paypal button on all the old blogs to the new price, just so there's no confusion. And as always, if you want to order multiple sketches, you can just do a straight paypal to tonyfleecs@hotmail.com only difference is, now it's $6.44 x however many sketches you want.

Anyway, this piece now lives at my buddy Dan Taylor's house, Dan's the writer/co-creator of the cult favorite comic (Super) Hero Happy Hour. FCBD Pics & $3 Sketches Update

Spent Free Comic Book Day at House of Secrets in Burbank, doing sketches for FCBD customers half the time and working on my pile of $3 sketches the other half. Thanks to Paul and Dre and Amy for having me out and being so hospitable. Thanks also to all my friends who came down and kept me company while I sketched away.

Here are a few pictures.

Supergirl and Wonder Woman were in attendance so oddly, most of the sketches I got asked for were of Supergirl and Wonder Woman.

Got a bunch of the $3 sketches done too. Should be a bunch of envelopes going out on Monday. The response to the sketches has been awesome and a little overwhelming... I have a LOT of them to do. But I'm doing my best to get them done fast, but not so fast that they look like they should only cost $3.

I'm gonna keep accepting the orders for a while longer (not being the type to look a gift horse in the mouth), I want to make sure everybody who wants a sketch gets one. But please have patience. I'm drawing as fast as I can. And hopefully getting faster while I'm at it.

Hey internet,

So this is my blog (aka, "website that I don't have to web-design at all"). If you're here, I'd imagine you know who I am, but in case you don't... My name's Tony, I write and draw comics. Also I read a lot of comics and books and I watch a lot of movies and visit a lot of internet web pages.

On this blog I will show you what's going on with what I'm drawing or writing. I'll probably also tell you what I'm reading or watching from time to time. If I go on a trip, I will most likely post pictures of it here for you to enjoy. Basically, all the stuff that everybody else does on their blogs-- I'll do that here. Only difference will be that it'll be my artwork and whatnot on here instead of theirs.
